Coming Alongside ChurchesVCLi is a parachurch discipleship organization. We come alongside churches worldwide to assist with the discipleship process using our comprehensive discipleship tool, SALT. We offer leadership training which equips leaders to disciple the entire congregation in the Seven Areas of Life Training. Two of the guys I met with had been to SALT seminars and felt it would really help me with my recurrent moral lapses of viewing pornography over the web. So I went to a week long 'intensive'. Most people at the event were there to get 'trained' on how to use SALT, but what we all really got was 'schooled' on how to surrender ourselves to God and follow Christ more authentically. The straightforward style of teaching, illustrated by the simple diagrams that go with each lesson were easy to follow and understand. Most penetrating though were the many Bible verses and personal reflection questions woven into each lesson. I found God stirring my soul and uncovering long imbedded faults in my life and motivation as I read all those scriptures and wrote out my answers to the questions. Fred and Valerie Paine instructed during my week using all sorts of real world examples and illustrations from their own lives. They were fun loving and genuine people the average person could relate to. They kept the learning process fun and real to life. Oh man, did I ever feel convicted about the way I tend to judge and criticize others, how I need to begin with love before correcting my kids; and the necessity of reaching understanding by sharing thoughts, feelings, and desires more intentionally with my wife. Most impact for me though, was the lesson on forgiveness. I have never seen a more thorough and powerful way to walk through forgiveness of a past hurt than that which the SALT teaching provides. It is crazy good to just obey God, forgive, and feel His freedom in your soul! There is no telling how God will touch your life and grow you as a person when you take your journey through the Seven Areas Of Life Training, but rest assured, He will meet you personally and powerfully along the way!
